Alan Williams works with clients in the UK and internationally who wish to commission a sculpture for a private, commercial or public setting. He creates original metal sculpture for private collectors, homes and gardens, commercial venues and public spaces. He accepts commissions of all sizes, including smaller pieces for personalised gifts, to mark a special occasion or to commemorate someone’s life.
Much of the work shown on this site was created as a commission and is now held in private collections or displayed in public and commercial spaces worldwide.
Previous Sculpture Commissions

Previous projects include his memorial sculpture of Lemmy Kilmister for Bloodstock Festival, a large-scale deer sculpture for Sky Park Farm and Time Migration, his Greenfinch sculpture created from reclaimed clock components.
Commercial Commissions
Alan creates commissioned sculpture for hotels, restaurants and bars, businesses, visitor attractions and other commercial settings. A sculpture might create a focal point, respond to the architecture or landscape, or draw on the character, history or identity of a place or organisation.
Alan works directly with clients and in collaboration with architects, garden and landscape designers and other professionals, developing work to suit the setting, scale and practical requirements of the project.
Private Commissions
A commission can begin with a clear idea, but it doesn’t have to. You might have a subject in mind, a space that needs something remarkable, or have seen Alan’s work and want to explore what he could create for you.
An object with special meaning can also serve as the starting point for a sculpture, or be incorporated into the finished work. Commissions range from smaller pieces for the home, gifts and special occasions to substantial sculptures created for gardens and landscapes.
Memorial Commissions
Alan is always honoured to be asked to create a memorial piece.
A memorial sculpture might draw on something important to the person being commemorated, or incorporate objects with a personal connection.
For his memorial sculpture of Lemmy Kilmister for Bloodstock Festival, Alan incorporated reclaimed Harley-Davidson parts and components from a Challenger 2 tank, linking the materials to Lemmy’s life and interests.
International Commissions
Alan has an established record of working internationally. Time Migration, a 2.2-metre Greenfinch commissioned by the Kuwait Industrial Union, is permanently displayed in Al Shaheed Park in Kuwait. More recently, Alan was one of ten international metal artists invited to take part in the Valuable Scraps project in Ankara, Turkey, where he created a large-scale Marlin from locally sourced scrap metal.
These projects reflect different approaches to creating work internationally. A sculpture can be designed and made at Alan’s Sussex forge for delivery overseas, or, when the project calls for it, developed and made in another country using locally sourced materials.
Alan welcomes enquiries from private collectors, businesses, designers and organisations outside the UK, for both individual commissions and larger collaborative projects.
Smaller Commissions
Not every commission needs to be large.
Alan also accepts commissions for smaller original sculptures, allowing collectors to own a piece created specifically for them without the space or budget required for a major work.
These pieces retain the materials, craftsmanship and character of Alan’s larger sculptures, but at a scale suited to a home, smaller garden or interior.

How to Commission Alan
If you are considering commissioning a sculpture, you don’t need to have all the details worked out before getting in touch. Some commissions begin with a very clear idea; others start with a looser idea or simply the wish to own a piece of Alan’s work.
Talk to Alan about what you have in mind or show him which of his sculptures caught your attention. If you are an architect, garden or landscape designer, or other professional looking for sculpture for a client or project, you can also approach Alan at an early stage to explore what might be possible. He will talk through the possibilities with you and help develop the idea, including the subject, scale, materials and likely budget.

How do I commission a sculpture from Alan?
Every commission is different. Alan will develop the idea with you, considering the form, scale, materials and eventual location before beginning work on the sculpture at his Sussex forge.

Do I need a finished brief before contacting Alan?
No. A subject or a rough idea is enough to begin a conversation. Alan will work with you to develop the idea from there. You will have a number of conversations before the project parameters are frozen and work begins.
How much does it cost to commission a sculpture?
The cost depends on the individual project. Scale, complexity, materials, construction, timescale and any delivery or installation requirements can all affect the price. Alan will discuss your budget early in the process so the proposed sculpture is realistic.
Can Alan copy one of his previous sculptures?
Alan’s commissions are original works. Previous sculptures can be useful references for the subject, scale or kind of work you like, but a new commission will be developed as an individual piece rather than an exact reproduction of an earlier sculpture.
How long will it take to produce my commission?
Can a commissioned sculpture be made for a garden?
Yes. Alan creates sculptures for gardens of all sizes, from smaller pieces placed among planting to substantial works that become a focal point within the landscape. A sculpture can be created for a particular location, taking into account the space, surroundings, and how it will be seen throughout the garden.
